Pride of Guernsey: Sam Culverwell

SAM CULVERWELL is an experienced and talented young cyclist who works hard both on and off the bike. He was nominated for the Butterfield-sponsored Young Achiever of the Year award by Velo Club development officer Paul Brehaut.

In his career Sam has won a Youth Commonwealth Games silver medal, an Island Games bronze medal, won the National XC mountain bike series round and came third in the National Road Series round. He is a ‘phenomenal talent who has got where he is through sheer hard work and dedication’ said Mr Brehaut. Outside of sport he is also a high achiever in school, achieving 13 A* GCSE results at Elizabeth College last year.
Sam was preparing for his GCSEs while at a major competition but remained calm and composed. Mr Brehaut said he has watched Sam come up through the ranks and now is an ‘outstanding athlete who trains like a professional cyclist’.
