Pride of Guernsey: Janet Unitt

‘AN INSPIRATION to so many people in life’ is how Janet Unitt is described by her nominator for the Carer of the Year award. Tim Langlois said Janet deserves the Specsavers-sponsored award due to the time she gives to charities and the community.

‘She is passionate about giving her time to charities and helping the community wherever she can,’ he said.
‘She has been a major active worker at the GSPCA for many years and has provided homes to many animals who would otherwise be considered unwanted.’
Janet is also a keen beach cleaner. ‘She can more than often be found combing the beaches for rubbish and clearing our shorelines and inspiring people to join her to make a difference to our island and the ocean,’ said Mr Langlois.
‘For many years she was a member of the Guernsey Youth Theatre and now can be seen helping out whenever she can and performing with the Guernsey Community Theatre.
‘More recently she has qualified as a voluntary first aider with St John and now can be seen filling the rest of her time helping the community at events in her green uniform.
‘She would go out of her way to help anyone that she meets.
‘A truly lovely person.’
