Pride of Guernsey: Casey-Joe Rumens

ACCORDING to Kiya Ashton, Casey-Joe Rumens is much more than a musician, singer and teacher.

‘Casey puts in so much work towards the arts in the island community,’ she said of her nominee for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year award.
‘His work with the School of Popular Music is astounding, alongside the rest of the team, and his achievements and contributions to various other art-related events and communities are equally as inspirational.’
Kiya said that Casey also has an incredible passion for helping people.
‘And this is the main reason that I’m nominating him. Recently the Guernsey Arts Commission and SOPM got involved with Guernsey Mind, raising awareness of mental health through the arts.
‘ This is something that Casey has helped me with significantly, as one of his students, for over a year. He has showed me that life is worth living and he has helped me significantly when I felt it wasn’t and when I felt no one could ever help me.
‘Because of Casey, I can express myself through music and feel confident in that and therefore in myself. This is something extraordinary and precious that I feel deserves recognition.’
