Pride of Guernsey: Vaughan Davies

RECOVERING from the debilitating physical and psychological effects of his stroke would have been enough to justify an Overcoming Adversity nomination for Vaughan Davies.

However, his nominator for the Close Finance-sponsored award has said what he has done since has ‘inspired others tenfold’.
‘He is a regular Headway veteran and we are so proud of how he has worked to get his life back on track following his stroke in October 2015,’ said Headway executive director Philippa Stahelin.
‘Having to give up his own travel business was a huge blow to Vaughan, but he fell back on his lifelong love of music to open his vinyl record shop, which helped give him his sense of worth and self-esteem back.
‘He also continues to fundraise for motor neurone and Headway charities. In addition, he is committed to helping others with a disability with volunteering opportunities at his shop.’
Catherine Dyer, who has also nominated Mr Davies, said his recovery was an inspiration to others.
‘Vaughan showed determination and courage when battling to recover after a debilitating stroke. It was at times extremely difficult and he fought hard to overcome the physical and psychological challenges he faced,’ she said.
‘What makes Vaughan very special and deserving of this award is that despite his ongoing challenges, he works hard to fundraise for the charities that are close to his heart and is always giving something back to the community.’
