Pride of Guernsey: Emergency Department at the PEH

STAFF at the Emergency Department have been nominated for Angel of the Year by a woman who had two members of her family attend the department within a relatively short space of time.

Julie Le Page said the team were ‘fantastic’ when her son had to be admitted.
‘They kept us informed of what was happening, what all the monitors were for, had at least one member of staff with us at all times and he even came up to the ward when my son was admitted,’ she said, adding that by then she thought he should have been on his meal break.
It was not long after that that Mrs Le Page’s granddaughter ended up at the Emergency Department: ‘Not only did they have to contend with a worried parent, they also had a worried grandparent, who was going between the two, and a sister who was worried about her brother and her daughter,’ she said.
‘Both of the doctors put us at ease, as did the staff who were involved in the care of them both.
‘It was quite busy up there but we never felt that they rushed us, or left us to deal with another patient.’
A second person also nominated the ED: ‘They have all given me hope and strength during my times of need,’ they said. ‘Without them I wouldn’t be here today and turning my life around and for that they need to be recognised, and for the selfless care and support they give me and everyone during these times.’
