THE Rev. Linda Le Vasseur has been nominated for the Specsavers-sponsored Carer of the Year Award by friend and parishioner Jane Wheadon.

Mrs Wheadon said Mrs Le Vasseur has taught many of the locals in the past, conducted their wedding ceremonies, christened their children and taken funerals of family, often all these things for the same person.

‘She conducted my marriage ceremony and she also flew over to England to bury my mother,’ she said.

‘She does all this with an awful lot of love and compassion – and a lot more work besides what she should.

‘This lady is on call 24 hours a day, sometimes even getting up in the middle of the night to go to the aid of the sick.

‘She is now the lead chaplain in the hospital.

‘Not only does she conduct funerals, she always follows up on the family until she is no longer needed.

‘She deserves to be recognised for what she does and I thought now was the time.’
