Pride of Guernsey: Rhian Harris

ST SAMPSON’S High School teacher Rhian Harris has been nominated for this year’s Teacher of the Year Award.

ST SAMPSON’S High School teacher Rhian Harris has been nominated for this year’s Teacher of the Year Award.

As the special educational needs assistant, Mrs Harris has impressed her anonymous nominator with her ‘unrivalled dedication to meet the needs of each student at St Sampson’s High School’ during the last four years in which she has held the role.

The nominator said Mrs Harris inspires lots of students who have a range of difficult needs.

‘She supports staff in up-skilling them to deal with students, [she] is a rock to parents and her input with some of the students means that they will now get GCSE qualifications.

‘She will not let any child fall behind and does so much to provide support in any way she can.’

Mrs Harris was nominated for a Pride of Guernsey award previously – by another nominator – but this year’s nominator said her work with child protection at the school means she deserves to continue to be recognised as one of Guernsey’s best educationalists.

‘Although she has a very difficult role she does the best job she possibly can, better than anyone else,’ the nominator said.

‘Mrs Harris does not get the credit she deserves, she is amazing.’
