STEVEN BYRNE of the GSPCA Animal Shelter has nominated Russ Fossey, the head of arts development at Guernsey Arts Commission, for the Moonpig-sponsored Arts Contribution of the Year Award.

Steven particularly commended Russ on his organisation of the GAC’s Arts Sunday.

‘Russ Fossey, who runs the Arts Sunday each year, does an incredible job in highlighting the arts in a way that truly celebrates the huge array of arts in Guernsey.

‘Russ brings together, co-ordinates and runs a day that thousands enjoy and showcases arts in such a way that many get to see and interact with a wide variety of talents that many would be unseen or unknown if it wasn’t for this wonderful event.’

Russ was delighted with his nomination, though he stressed that Arts Sunday is a huge team effort.

‘I can’t take the credit for Arts Sunday. The success of the event comes about through the hard work of the small, dedicated team we have at the GAC, the many volunteers who help set up the day and most importantly, the arts and music community which comes together to create this fantastic event. This year we teamed up with the Disability Alliance to further promote inclusion with the slogan “Arts for Everyone” and were delighted with the engagement we got.

‘Arts Sunday really shows off Guernsey’s community spirit at its best and celebrates the power of the arts.
