THE GSPCA front desk, night, emergency and warden teams have all been nominated for the Cherry Godfrey-sponsored Emergency Hero of the Year Award for their tireless work day and night.

The volunteers and staff members from each group were nominated by Steve Byrne, who could ‘not explain how proud’ he was of them.

‘It is relentless at the GSPCA with calls coming in day and night about animals needing rescuing, animals arriving and over 1,000 families needing reuniting or help grieving an animal’s death.’

‘Whether it is 3am or Christmas Day, they do an incredible job serving the island.’

The volunteering service has been running for more than 40 years, with an animal ambulance available 24/7.

‘They’re truly an amazing team that do so much, from manning the emergency phone and being there for not only the Guernsey community but also often at the airport or harbour to help with neighbouring islands.’

‘Their care and understanding qualities help so many in such an array of circumstances and each of them should be very proud of all they achieve.’
