DENISE and Geoff Bishop have been nominated for the Channel Islands Co-operative Society-sponsored Grandparent/s of the Year award for their unwavering support.

Their granddaughter and one of their nominators, Cayleigh Bishop, said they have been there for her ‘through everything’, while family friend Yvonne Le Pelley also believes they deserve the accolade.

‘Everything I have been through, every single year, my grandparents have been there for me,’ Cayleigh said.

‘They have looked after me for most of my life and have helped me financially, given me a clean, loving home and have supported me even when they were going through a hard time.

‘They deserve this nomination because they have had it hard and have come through and still push themselves every day to look after me and the rest of the family.’

Cayleigh said that her grandparents looked after her when her parents passed away.

‘They are responsible, caring, loving grandparents whom I would go to the end of the Earth for,’ Cayleigh adds.

Second nominator Mrs Le Pelley said, ‘Denise and Geoff had followed their dream of finally moving to Spain, then last year received the call no parent should ever receive.

‘After the tragic news, Denise and Geoff packed up their Spanish home and returned to Guernsey to take Cayleigh in and try to give her stability and the home life a teenager requires.

‘No family should have to endure what this family has gone through – my husband and I are proud to call them our friends.’
