JOE CHADWICK has been nominated for the St Pierre Park Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort-sponsored Young Achiever of the Year Award amid an outstanding season of sprinting for Guernsey and Millfield School.

The 17-year-old former Elizabeth College student has set island under-20 records over 60m and 200m this year, as well as becoming Guernsey’s first male 100m champion at the Island Games since 2005.

In Gibraltar, he also contributed to gold-medal performances in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, racing the latter for the first time.

‘Joe is a thoroughly deserving nomination,’ said the anonymous nominator.

‘He is both driven and naturally talented as an athlete and has developed impressively over the last year after joining Millfield.

‘He has made his mark since the beginning of 2019 and from the bottom of his age-group, he has won various titles and continued to improve his personal bests without a hiccup.

‘His recent excellence in Gibraltar only helps his case.’
