RETIRING pre-school teacher Ruth Mahy has been nominated for this year’s Pride of Guernsey Teacher of The Year Award.

‘Ruth has worked at – and been the owner of – Kinder pre-school for 28 years and is now retiring,’ her nominator Nicola Lesbirel said.

‘She has had generations of families over the years come to Kinder.’

Mrs Lesbirel said the love, care, dedication and support Mrs Mahy has given to the children and their families has been amazing.

‘I had the pleasure, not only of being a parent of a child attending Kinder, but of working for Ruth during her last two years and have so much respect and admiration for the work, effort, fun and care she has given to so many.

‘The children have all been extremely fond of her as she has such a fun, kind, energetic, and caring way about her, something I think she liked to instill in her staff, making Kinder such a nice place to be.’

Mrs Lesbirel loved the fact that Mrs Mahy never made Kinder feel like a business because the welfare of the staff, children and their families has always been a priority.

‘You would walk into the pre-school and immediately get a warm feeling about it and that is how everyone felt that had ties to the school in one form or another.’
