IN A YEAR when Guernsey’s emergency services have been stretched to their extreme a local race team, which knows quite a bit about extremes, has stepped in to sponsor an award for them.

MadMax race team is the new sponsor of the Pride of Guernsey Emergency Hero of the Year award, which aims to recognise groups such as the police, firefighters and lifeboatmen.

Team CEO Zef Eisenberg said they were pleased and proud to sponsor this year’s award.

‘It is an area close to my heart, having had direct experience of their dedication and skills in September 2016, with Britain’s fastest motorbike crash to survive from,’ he said.

‘The incredible help of the medics on the scene on that day, helicopter crew, intensive care and the three-month recovery in the PEH was testimony to the importance, skill set and dedication of these superbly trained people. Without them, I would not be talking to you now.’

In recent months many of the emergency services have been working hard to keep the island safe during lockdown.

‘Those on the front line are often forgotten after the emergency is over,’ Mr Eisenberg said.

‘It is a hope that this award will go some way to recognising those who devote their working life to helping and protecting others; whether that be emergency medical crew, police officers, firemen and others in Guernsey who are first on scene, saving and protecting lives with true passion. Please nominate anyone that has gone above and beyond their remit and made an extraordinary difference, to ensure they get the recognition they deserve in our wonderful community.’
