Teacher of the year: Deborah Hollingworth

‘A LEGEND’ is how some of Deborah Hollingworth’s students have described her. ‘A LEGEND’ is how some of Deborah Hollingworth’s students have described her.

She has been nominated for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award by several of her students, who are hopeful the St Sampson’s High School media teacher will win the Pride of Guernsey category for the effort she puts into her classes and for helping every student she can.

Jaeden Mordecai, 14, said: ‘Ms Hollingworth is a fantastic teacher.

‘I have learnt more this year in media with her than I have in any other year.

‘She is a fun teacher and not too strict.’

Another said she was ‘a joy to be taught by and just lights up the room’.

A third student said: ‘Ms Hollingworth always goes the extra mile for her students.

‘I have never seen her work harder than when facing the recent challenges of remote learning; she did so with power, turning what was a chaotic time into a new normal.

‘She is a head of year and spends so much time out of the classroom trying to make her students’ lives better and their high school experience one to remember.

‘She is a magnificent person and thoroughly deserves this award.’
