JACOB BELLIS has been nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Young Achiever award, sponsored by St Pierre Park.

Jacob has autism and during lockdown was determined to complete his Asdan (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network) qualification for St Sampson’s High School so organised a sponsored walk for himself to raise money for Autism Guernsey.

He has been a member of the CIAS Base at St Sampson’s High School for the last five years and has been nominated for the award by his learning mentor Lindsay Gallagher.

‘Jacob patiently waited to complete what he had started with a goal of raising £300,’ she said.

‘He proudly completed his walk and ended up raising over £3,000 for the charity.’

Jacob said to the Guernsey Press after the achievement that while he has autism, it doesn’t stop him doing anything or let it get in the way, which Ms Gallagher thought was just a wonderful outlook to have on life.

‘His attitude to life is so inspirational,’ she said.

‘Jacob always sets out to try his best in everything he does and I am very proud of everything he has achieved.’

He is now awaiting his GCSE results and Ms Gallagher wished him the best of luck in his next step at the performing arts college.
