A TEACHER who does a ‘sterling job’, Julie Conchar, has been nominated for the HSBC-sponsored Pride of Guernsey Teacher of the Year award.

Parent Shelley Tansell, whose son was in Miss Conchar’s Year 2 class at Castel Primary School from September 2019, said in her nomination that she had put her forward due to ‘her total dedication, creativity, good humour and demonstration of patience’, as well as her ‘understanding of the range of individual needs and her never-ending encouragement and support’.

She said her son had even missed his teacher during the lockdown period.

‘During this strange time, she did a sterling job directing us, the parents and her pupils, from her home via the ClassDojo app.

‘Parents and pupils logged on daily and immediately felt at ease as she took it all in her stride and skilfully led parents and pupils with her favourite phrases, laughs and smiles, which all the children loved and could relate to.

‘Nothing was or is ever too much trouble for Miss Conchar, she always finds an answer or a solution.’

She added: ‘She certainly has shaped our son this year into an organised and independent learner.

‘Noticeably her passion for teaching and learning rubs off on her students and our son recounts his school day with enthusiasm.

‘Under Miss Conchar’s nurturing wing, our son has advanced in his maturity and his confidence within his school subjects.

‘He has also socially flourished and formed some lovely friendships within his year group.

‘She has very much made him feel a very valued member of her class and the school community – she is an absolute credit to Castel Primary School.’
