THE matron and staff at St John’s Residential Home provide excellent care for all, according to someone who is qualified to know.

Rosemary and Eric Mace have been residents there since October 2014.

‘The matron and all of the staff give professional care to a very high standard and there is a loving atmosphere,’ said Mrs Mace.

‘Nothing is too much trouble for them.’

People worked extra hours during the lockdown and extra-special attention was paid to everything.’

The home was in lockdown for three months.

‘Somebody went around with iPads and phones so people could see and speak to relatives,’ said Mrs Mace.

‘Some who had not been able to see relatives had been quite upset about it, so that was lovely for them.’

Mrs Mace said they were grateful for the way in which they were kept safe, healthy and happy by people who were prepared to go the extra mile in exceptional circumstances. Several weeks before lockdown the matron closed the doors to visitors and imposed a strict regime of social distancing, hand washing, constant sanitising of hard surfaces, daily temperature checks and careful monitoring of residents and staff, who had to have a complete change of clothing upon entering the building.

The home remained virus-free thanks to every one of the staff who went the extra mile to keep the residents safe and well and this nomination for the Carer of the Year award is appreciation of their wonderful work throughout the year.
