FOR teaching in a very calm and ‘awesome’ way is the reason put forward for the nomination of Sarah Tennant for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award.

Ms Tennant works at St Sampson’s High School teaching music and was nominated by her student Rachel Miller, 13, who said she was always very supportive.

‘She is very enthusiastic and motivated and always shows an interest,’ she said.

‘Usually at the end of term we would have a concert called a mad night where we showcase what we’ve been up to, but this year because of coronavirus it was cancelled, so instead we recorded with students and teachers a rendition of the Foo Fighters’ Times Like These.

‘It really helped us to say thank you to the community and round off our term.’

She added that she was part of the choir and orchestra and knew just how much work Ms Tennant put into her job.

‘She’s well respected and appreciated and just a really nice teacher who deserves to be recognised.’
