Her life is made so much better through the company and care of staff, who always ensure she has the best of treatment.

‘It is just so marvellous down there,’ said their nominator for the Cherry Godfrey-sponsored Customer Service of the Year award. ‘They have been absolutely brilliant for me after I lost my partner two years ago. It has become my refuge.’

Loneliness is kept at bay through the compassion and friendship extended there.

‘We were together 25 years and have lived in the area for about as long. In that time I’ve seen about three changeovers. All the girls and staff there are very, very nice. Jenny, the owner, is a lovely person too.

‘They just have that care which not everywhere has.’

After a coffee on the Bridge at 8am, the next stop is to the Kiln to fire up the coffee machines again.

‘I’m not frightened on my own, but I do appreciate the time they spend with me. As soon as they see me they bring me my usual coffee.’

Nothing is ever too much trouble, even when they are busy.

‘Staff are so obliging, they just can’t do enough for you and they are always smiling and happy. They listen to your whims.

‘I love going there. I go every day.’
