PROJECT LINUS GUERNSEY is a charity that collects handmade security blankets and quilts and delivers them to local babies and children who need a hug.

Its nominator for the Carer of the Year award, Victoria Bebbington, said it was a tremendous support to children across the Bailiwick in need of comfort during difficult times in their lives.

‘They may be coping with illness themselves or coming to terms with a worrying diagnosis for a family member, they may even be grieving, but Project Linus is there to help them,’ she said.

Volunteers give up their free time and resources to knit, crochet, sew and make patchwork blankets of all shapes and sizes. More than 100 blankets were delivered during the lockdown alone.

Miss Bebbington said she had asked the charity to help a young family who had lost their mother to a debilitating illness. The response was professional, understanding and compassionate and blankets were delivered by hand the following day.
