TEACHER who is said to go the extra mile for students have been nominated for the HSBC-sponsored Teacher of the Year award.
As a teacher of philosophy and ethics for six years at Les Beaucamps High School, Patricia Fox focuses on allowing her students to properly engage with the content.
Her nominator, who wished to remain anonymous, said: ‘She has a passion for her students and is enthusiastic for them to appreciate the content of their classes.
‘Students who take religious studies with her are encouraged to question the ethics of difficult situations and to become confident in debate.
‘Many use this confidence to explore more classes at A-level that require the same skills, such as sociology,’ they said.
‘As a form tutor, she has built a particularly strong working relationship with the parents, which means she can cater to some of her students’ more specialised needs – everyone is included.’
When distanced learning was in place at the school, Mrs Fox took the time to continue this relationship.
‘She understands that 90% of the battle in investing students in their classes is understanding their issues beyond the school gates.’
