Neighbour of the Year: David and Aline Turner

DAVID and Aline Turner, aged 79 and 74 respectively, have been nominated for the Guernsey Gas-sponsored Neighbour of the Year award for their ‘incredible kindness’.

Their neighbour, Shirley Gounder, who works at Le Rondin School, said: ‘I am on my own and have a number of long-term health conditions. David and Aline have been incredibly kind to me.

‘The Turners have driven me around this beautiful island and won’t take any petrol money. They are from Guernsey and have shared their local knowledge of the community.’

Shirley also commended David and Alice for their voluntary efforts.

David has been chairman of the Guernsey Senior Citizens Association for three years and the couple have also been involved with Guernsey Cancer Support for around 10 years – Alice only recently gave up leading the group.

‘In July 2021, I had an eye operation in the UK. On my return to the flat they bought me lovely food from Marks & Spencer and would not take any money.

‘I know that I and many others, whose hearts they have touched, are so grateful for their kindness. When you relocate to a new county and do not have friends or family except your colleagues, it is quite a traumatic experience for a single female.

‘I truly believe the Turners should get an award for all their kindness and thoughtfulness.’
