The whole of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital staff have been nominated for the Angel of the Year award, which is sponsored by Ravenscroft.
An anonymous nominator said: ‘After reaching the tender age of 59 years, and apart from a one-month stopover in hospital many years ago, I have never appreciated the important role this facility plays in our local community.
‘Just recently I was admitted to the PEH for a routine 3-4 day stay, which unfortunately turned into a 15-day stopover. Whilst recuperating, I was able to observe the quiet, unassuming manner that the staff go about on their quest to keep this Goliath on track.
‘Whether it be cleaners, nurses, doctors, porters, specialists, theatre staff, etc, etc. there are no moans, no groans, just a combined goal of getting the job done. Not just 8 til 5pm, but 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Spare a thought for the staff on call at 3am, whether it be on ward or in a theatre.
‘After all the uncertainty of the last 15 months or so, with so many new and unseen challenges to face, they have risen to the mantle in exemplary fashion.
‘They are certainly our “Micro City of Angels” and deserve the highest praise possible for their commitment to duty.
‘So whether you’re the lady in the laundromat, or the nurse on the ward, what a team. Stand up and take a bow, you deserve it.’
