JORDAN BOUGOURD has been nominated for the MSG-sponsored Emergency Hero of the Year award for his ‘care and thoughtfulness’ during an emergency.
In November last year, Helen Ridley began experiencing what is now known to have been a brain aneurysm at work at Saffery Champness.
Mr Bougourd, who was working at Saffery Champness at the time, phoned the emergency services while holding Helen upright and keeping her airways open.
Three of Helen’s colleagues looked after her while waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
Mr Bougourd acted quickly, clearing the area around Helen and anticipating what needed to be done next.
‘At the time it all seemed to happen very quickly. You don’t have time to stand around and think about it, I just acted,’ Mr Bougourd said.
Mr Bougourd also supported Helen’s son Dan during this time and drove him to the hospital when the emergency services had arrived.
Mr Bougourd took control of parking Helen’s partner’s car so he could be with her as soon as possible in this stressful situation.
Helen said: ‘I cannot express enough that without assistance from my colleagues I wouldn’t be here to tell the story today.’
Helen is now back at work after travelling to the UK for emergency brain surgery and recovering at home in the months that followed.
