GRANDMOTHER of eight Penny Bolger has been nominated for the Channel Islands Co-op-sponsored Grandparent/s of the Year award.

She was put forward by Peter and Helena McGovern, who said: ‘Penny sadly lost her beloved husband Eddie to early onset dementia in 2020. This coincided with her daughter Jessica giving birth to twins.

‘Penny retired from her much loved job in travel to devote herself to looking after her eight grandchildren and I know everyone who knows her will testify to what a wonderful grandmother she is.

‘Penny puts her heart and soul into everything she does despite the pain of losing her husband far too early and we believe she deserves to be recognised by this award.’

Mrs Bolger said she spends a lot of time with her eight grandchildren, doing the school runs in term time and taking them out for activities whenever she can.

‘I usually spend time with at least one of my grandchildren every day,’ she said.
