Terina Norman was the winner of the Neighbour of the Year award.
She said she was grateful to have been nominated and that to win was an honour.
‘To help is just something you do, and I will continue to do that.’
‘It’s just a really proud moment for me.’
She said she was honoured and privileged to be in the position to help out the residents of Rodley Park Estate.
‘I’m just a very lucky girl.’
She said that organising a Christmas party for some of the residents was a particular highlight.
‘An elderly man had had a fall and a stroke, I helped in the aftermath and luckily he survived.’
‘After that we decided to do something special for Christmas, and the Salvation Army was great in helping us organise food and drinks, as well as a Santa to turn up.’
She added that it had taken two months to organise, but that it was more than worth it.
‘To see the residents’ faces light up after seeing Santa, even at their age, was just so heart-warming and special.’
Nominator Katina Jones said Mrs Norman was a very caring person.
‘She looks after many of us, popping in to see if we are well and if we need anything.’
‘She takes us to the shops or anywhere we might need to go, nothing is too much trouble for her.’
‘When we had a power-cut late one dark night, she popped around to make sure many of us had a light, bringing out her own lanterns or torches to give out if needed.’
‘We only have to call for her and she will help us if she can.’
‘She has offered to look after me when I go in for a second knee replacement as my husband is unable to and my children are working, so they can know I will be in safe hands.’
Mick and Barbara Gill and Steve and Mary Martel were the other finalists in the category.
