‘Truly amazing’ Alexia-Beth Ozanne has been nominated for the Overcoming Adversity award, which is sponsored by JT.

Lexi underwent a 12-hour operation on her spine two years ago, aged just 15, due to having scoliosis, and then had to learn how to walk again.

All this happened during Covid and while her family was also undergoing a time of great stress.

‘It put Lexi through so much trauma and pain, but through everything, Lexi has just shone through,’ said nominator Karen Langlois. ‘She is a lovely person who has suffered so much, she is just amazing.’

Lexi’s spine curvature went from 54 degrees to 112 degrees in less than a year. She suffered immense pain from her lungs being crushed, which also caused her to faint regularly, and experience numbness throughout her body.

Throughout her journey and recovery from scoliosis, and now aged 17, she remains positive and caring towards others, despite her health and family adversities.

‘Lexi missed her GCSEs due to her condition, but turned up on results day to support her friends and classmates,’ said Karen.

‘I mostly know the family through the church, and there’s a lot of young people that come and Lexi is just so inspirational and caring towards them all.

‘She truly deserves this award.’
