Elia Shaw has been nominated for the Parent of the Year award, sponsored by Ray & Scott. ‘My mother deserves this award through her journey she has been through,’ said her nominator, Luke Shaw, 16.

‘My mother deserves this award through her journey she has been through,’ said her nominator, Luke Shaw, 16.

‘She first got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and she had to go through so much pain and she had to keep a smile on her face so me and my sisters were happy, but then after getting through that she was clear.

‘But last year she got diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and she now has to take medication for the rest of her life, but she has been such a loving, caring mother, and she deserves this.’

‘I didn’t want to tell him. I kept it from him but he kind of guessed,’ Elia said of her diagnosis. She was quite emotional upon receiving news of her nomination, the first she heard of her son nominating her.
