The Soil Farm

The Soil Farm has been nominated for the Sustainability Hero of the Year award, sponsored by Aon.

‘The Soil Farm for the last five years has worked tirelessly to regenerate and improve the soil health of the island,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.

‘Without their hard work the soil health and ultimately the sustainability of food and crop production locally would be in decline. 

‘Their sheer determination to provide chemical-free, clean, fresh food to the local food chain, in turn utilising local greenhouses for food production, is commendable.’

The Soil Farm was set up in 2018 with the aim of restoring healthy food systems.

‘It is of primary importance that we utilise this opportunity to address the community’s relationship with food,’ said a farm spokesman.

‘Awareness informs choice, which in turn influences behaviour, which creates demand and positively impacts outcomes. 

‘Realising these sequential outcomes through the creation of the farm can serve as a blueprint, facilitating scaling and replication, steadily increasing the availability of fresh and clean locally-grown food in a financially viable model. 

'In the decade ahead, we believe there will be a measurable increase in the value placed on food, food security and biodiversity. 

‘We are seeking to build a model that both inspires and services this demand.

‘We are thrilled to be nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Sustainability Hero award, believing passionately in the work that we do and the need to deliver this for our community and our children.’
