Bulstrode Oncology Unit

Bulstrode Oncology Unit at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital has been nominated for the Angel of the Year award, sponsored by Ravenscroft.

‘The “cancer club” is no club anyone wishes to join, however, all the staff from the reception desk staff who always greet you with a smile and remember you by name, nurses, oncologists and volunteers are all behind you every step of the way supporting you on your cancer journey,’ said their nominator, Nicki Wilbraham.

‘From the moment you step into Bulstrode you are greeted with a smile, kindness and positivity.

‘Many cancer patients don’t see themselves as being sick but instead the treatment is making us ill, as a result you are treated as a person not a sick patient.

‘They will take the time to get to know you as a person. They go the extra mile by ensuring you are equipped with a wig or a head covering for hair loss should you wish to have one, take time to have a chat if you simply just need to offload or have a cry and constantly look for ways to make the journey easier.

‘Recently they have set up an initiative to provide a scarf to new chemotherapy patients in conjunction with a UK clothing company.

‘Little touches like this really help.

‘The moment you walk into Bulstrode it simply feels like a safety net and that is because of all the amazing angels pulling together to help you.’
