School of Popular Music

School of Popular Music has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion award

Founded in 2013, the School of Popular Music has established itself as a thriving hub for all ages and abilities to come and pick up an instrument.

‘All the staff are amazing with the children, regardless of their abilities, behaviours and neurodiversity,’ said their nominator for the Diversity and Inclusion award, who wishes to remain anonymous.

‘They have helped my son grow in confidence so much and provided him with the opportunity to learn different instruments and perform on stage.

‘He’s not been diagnosed, but we suspect he might be neurodiverse and we are grateful for a club like SOPM as music can really help their parasympathetic nervous system.

‘I’ve been blown away by the kindness and patience of all the staff.

‘There are many children there, some who I know have, or are being assessed for, neurodiversity, but they are all treated the same and all come together at the end of each session to show off their new skills, not to mention the fantastic concert SOPM hosted at their party in the park in July to celebrate their 10 years, where every child had the opportunity to take part.

‘There were many proud parents, who I know would join me in their gratitude for everything that SOPM does for our children.’
