Dawn Sealey has been nominated for Sustainability Hero of the Year

Dawn is paving the way for responsible, impact-investing into green initiatives and providing incentives for companies to do so.

‘Since becoming a parent ten years ago it has really hammered home what’s going on in the world,’ she said.

‘The more money that goes through Guernsey that to green initiatives rather than oil and gas the better,’ she said, noting the ‘huge’ power of the island’s finance industry.

She helped set up the Guernsey Green Fund, an accreditation to show that a company is working towards sustainable practices, but still remains conscious of issues facing the cause such as greenwashing.

She also helps organise industry events, including an educational seminar at Sustainable Finance Week and has worked with the GTA University Centre on developing a sustainability course.

‘She really lives and breathes it, leading by example,’ said her nominator Cathy Lloyd.

‘She’s not guilt-tripping you, she’s passionate in an unassuming way – but always ready to help educate anyone interested.

‘Lots of people talk about sustainability, but she lives it, looking at her lifestyle.

‘She cycles to work in all weathers, even doing the school run.

‘She’s always got her re-usable things, I’ve never seen her with any kind of takeaway. She gently role-models the behaviours to be more sustainable.

‘She does all this quietly and under the radar without any need for recognition.’
