Jessica and James Rihoy have been nominated for Sustainability Hero of the Year

Jessica and James Rihoy took over Castel Farm Eggs just one week after tying the knot at the start of this year.

Their arrival, combined with 4,000 chickens being shipped to Guernsey, was just the start of their five-year plan to upgrade the farm. 

They have since worked with local businesses and Environmental Health to ensure that the farm does not become a health hazard for neighbours again, following repeated complaints of flies in previous years and court-enforced action to close the grounds.

This work and dedication to create a ‘clean, happy environment’ and not lose ‘the Guernsey egg’ has prompted a nomination for the Pride of Guernsey Sustainability Hero of the Year award, which Jessica Rihoy was very excited about.

‘The recognition is lovely – it is really nice,’ Mrs Rihoy said.

‘Since taking over the farm, work has been good - hard absolutely - but very rewarding.’
