Sue Duport has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award

Known as ‘Mummy Sue’ to those at Try A Tri Guernsey, Swim All Seasons and Guernsey Mobility Let’s Go, Sue Duport’s ‘caring and warm’ persona and voluntary efforts have been recognised with a nomination for Sports Volunteer of the Year.

In addition to her years of voluntary service, nominator Laura Fry said that Sue’s personal story was so inspiring, using the community to get through grief after losing her husband a few years ago, and being able to help others in similar positions.

‘She makes us smile, laugh and is a beacon of hope and optimism, no matter what’s going on in the world,’ Laura said. 

‘She brings people together and there will be tens, maybe hundreds of people who will tell you they were able to get out of the house when they were at their lowest, because of Sue.’

When contacted about her nomination, Sue said that she did not expect to be thanked, but hoped that the acknowledgement will encourage others to volunteer, especially in the third sector, as those who need help were not always recognised.
