THE best part of Amanda Benwell’s week is volunteering at Guernsey Mobility Let’s Go where she gets to see the members smile and laugh.
Amanda started helping out with Guernsey Mobility during her lunch break several years ago and has since become the group’s secretary.
Her volunteering efforts, also helping out with Wheelchairography Guernsey, stem from Amanda looking out for her sister Mel [Edwards] while growing up, who was bullied for being disabled.
‘She puts herself out and puts others first, she is always second,’ Mel said when nominating Amanda for Sports Volunteer of the Year.
‘She does anything she can do to help out of the goodness of her heart and is a great big sister to me.’
Amanda and Mel took part in this year’s Saffrey Rotary Walk and also work hard to raise money for Guernsey Mobility Let’s Go with fund-raisers such as themed bingo nights.
In addition to raising money to help the 25-30 members of Guernsey Mobility, Amanda is proud of working to break down barriers with children from St Martin's School when they volunteer with the group each week.
