The Flying Christine is now a welcome sight to many in the Bailiwick after it faced lengthy delays with repairs this year.
‘The crew give up their time to train and support the Bailiwick Ambulance Service in emergency cases across the islands,’ said their nominator for Emergency Hero of the Year, who wishes to remain anonymous.
‘Lately they have been extremely busy with several emergencies in Herm and Sark.
‘They are a wonderful bunch of lads and give selflessly to the community while also supporting their own full-time day jobs and families.
‘Without their time and commitment, this would leave our smaller islands without this lifeline.’
The marine ambulance had been out of action for six months due to difficulties in the global supply chain, but is now back in the water, fully operational.
‘The boat is on call to all the Bailiwick islands 24/7 and we know the Flying Christine is very popular with people in the islands, but to get a nomination like this means a lot to the crew, who are all volunteers,’ said operations manager Gary Ward.
‘They don’t just go out on calls but also exercises and so give a lot of hours behind the scenes that people don’t see. So it is really nice to receive a nomination and recognition again after winning it two years ago.’
