Peter Amy

Peter Amy has been nominated for Overcoming Adversity

Overcoming Adversity nominee Peter Amy brushed aside claims that he would never be able to run again following numerous operations to treat his pancreatic cancer, as he aims to take on the Guernsey half marathon this September. He was diagnosed 15 years ago and has undergone multiple major operations, with the latest in February taking around nine hours.

To the surprise of his surgeons he managed to walk twice a day throughout March, and by mid-April he was doing eight to 10 miles a day.

‘His determination to rejoin running – he has done marathons – is amazing. His surgeon said he would never be able to do it again,’ said nominator, Gillian Burrows.

Not only is Peter aiming to tackle Guernsey’s half marathon, he is aiming for a quick turnaround to run another half marathon a month later.

He said that his love for the sport has helped him a lot throughout his struggles with cancer.

‘For me it just makes everything easier and the running community here is lovely.’
