‘WHETHER you need help financially, physically, with food, advice, life skills, faith, and so much more’ Sue Le Friec and the team at the Guernsey Welfare Service will be there to help you.
That is what Ciara Lewis, who has put the group forward for Bailiwick Community Hero award, says about them.
The Guernsey Welfare Service is an independent charity that has been around since 1896, helping a variety of people from single-parent families to those suffering with disabilities.
‘The volunteers are the most lovely, selfless, caring people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting,’ said Ms Lewis.
‘Sue and her team work absolutely tirelessly 365 days a year and some staff do not get paid for the incredible work they do to keep a big portion of our island fed and looked after.’
Mrs Le Friec has worked with the Guernsey Welfare Service for 12 years, and said it was more a ‘vocation than a job’ – she remains to be ‘very passionate’ about helping people.
