Lesley Perchard and GVS Jubilee Day Centre

Lesley Perchard and GVS Jubilee Day Centre have been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero

When told about her nomination for Bailiwick Community Hero, Lesley Perchard said that she had been thinking about Ruby Johns recently and Ruby’s love for making an effort for everything – specifically remembering her full red, white and blue outfit Ruby had once donned for Liberation Day.

Ruby’s daughter Roz Johns put Lesley Perchard and the team at GVS Jubilee Day Centre forward for the Pride of Guernsey award for all of their help in keeping Ruby’s last few months full of life and allowing Ruby to make some final good memories.

‘Lesley would pick her up and do her hair and then she would spend the day there with a meal and entertainment,’ Roz said.

‘Mum had always been very independent, but I was always there to assist or do what she couldn’t and we had a very close bond.’

After Ruby sadly passed away in March of this year, aged 95, Lesley has been inspired to consistently ‘make an effort’ in honour of her late friend and was thinking up ways to go the extra mile for the 80th Liberation Day in 2025.
