Jo Cottell

Jo Cottell has been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero

JO COTTELL, CEO of Guernsey Mind, has been nominated for her work in starting conversations about suicide and changing lives.

Guernsey Mind aims to support islanders and cultivate positive attitudes towards mental health.

It offers support, awareness and training on mental health.

Guernsey Mind runs community events throughout the year including fundraisers such as the 10k Run Challenge, and the Sunrise Walk of Hope from Vale Castle to La Vallette.

The Sunrise Walk drew 740 walkers this year as they journeyed, both literally and symbolically, from the dark and into the light.

It is this work, centred around raising awareness of suicide, that her nominator took particular notice of.

Jo, alongside Mary Carre, Mandy Le Bachelet and Sarah Bamford, helped organise The Suicide Journey conference in March this year ‘to help continue and grow these conversations on suicide so that we can have an awareness to safely talk about it,’ said her nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.

‘They have empowered me, saved and changed my life and empower me to give back, raise awareness and offer hope to others in need.’
