The Rotary and Lions Club of Guernsey

The Rotary and Lions Club of Guernsey have been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero

Back in 2022, Martine-Marie White - Rotary and Lions Club’s nominator - lost her job, independence and driving licence when she got very sick.

As a result, the Lions and Rotary Clubs banded together to get Martine an incredible mobility scooter. ‘The kindness of these charities has made a huge difference in my life,’ said Martine.

‘It’s a great honour for our club to be co-nominated in recognition of the work that we do supporting individuals with specific needs,’ said Robert Holder, the Lions Club president. The Lion’s Club was founded in 1967 and continues to do amazing work, and on this occasion truly living up to their motto ‘Where there’s a need, there’s a lion.’

The Rotary Club does many different things to raise money for charity, including the Tree of Joy. Sometimes the club receives a request from someone who needs their help such as helping with the purchase of Martine’s e-scooter. ‘We’re very pleased to be nominated,’ said Simon Howitt, president of the Rotary Club.

‘I don’t think these charities often get the recognition that they deserve,’ said Martine who just wants to say a huge thank you to both amazing charities.
