Described as a ‘true visionary and legend,’ Aaron Yeandle’s photography project focusing on the blossoming African community in Guernsey has seen him nominated for Arts Contribution of the Year.
The project comprises intimate portraits of people from various African communities who now live in Guernsey, aiming to celebrate the new cultures and heritages that are being brought onto the island.
‘I wanted to capture this moment in time with our new communities that have been turning Guernsey into a multicultural society,’ said Aaron.
‘Photography is a powerful medium that transcends language and cultural barriers, allowing people from diverse backgrounds to connect and understand each other’s experiences.’
One nominator Marianne Muduviwa added how impactful it has been within her community.
‘The exhibition was very vivid and emotional for all involved as it captured the welcome that this community has received in Guernsey,’ she said.
‘It also created a platform for learning about each other and integration.
‘School children got involved to learn more about African games and art.’
