It may not be the Strictly Come Dancing Glitter Ball trophy, but Guernsey Can You Dance organisers Vanessa James and Donna Pierce could be in with a chance of lifting an Arts Contribution award.
The sisters, who first fell in love with dancing at a young age, started the dance competition three years ago teaming novice dancers up with experienced partners to train for three months before taking part in a weekend fundraising event.
This year’s competition saw record funds raised with £15,500 donated across 12 local charities including St Saviour’s Community Centre, Guernsey Chest and Heart and Wellbeing Animals Guernsey as well as Carey Olsen’s facilities manager Craig Brouard lifting the 2024 trophy.
However, it was 2023 Latin dance winner Anita Fletcher who nominated the sister duo for the Pride of Guernsey award.
‘They are two of the loveliest humans I know,’ said Anita Fletcher.
‘They spread so much joy with their dancing and make it so fun.’
Vanessa and Donna also contribute to the dance world by volunteering for other groups such as wheelchairography.
The organisers will start recruiting for their 2025 Guernsey You Can Dance competition in January.
