When the Town Carnival closed in 2019, the Guernsey Street Festival wished to follow in its footsteps to bring community spirit and art into the centre of Town.
‘Every shopkeeper, every worker and every visitor to Town over the past two weeks owes a debt of gratitude to the team and the performers behind the Guernsey Street Festival,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The two-week festival allows everyone to enjoy their time in Town with acts over from the UK, in addition to providing amazing entertainment for the late-night shopping evenings at Christmas everybody loves.
‘We’re a not-for-profit organisation committed to the promotion of community spirit, the encouragement and showcasing of local talent, and celebration of visiting artists and street entertainers,’ said Claire Dawson, the festival's chairwoman.
‘We’re creating a platform for performers and artists of all genres, skills and ages to promote themselves to the people of Guernsey and to promote Guernsey to visitors. We feel incredibly honoured to have been nominated.’
The festival adds that bit of colour and merriment to the summer atmosphere.
‘Combined with a bit of sunshine and some cruise passengers, they make the centre of St Peter Port more like how we remember it – bustling, lively, joyous,’ their nominator said.
‘And all for nothing as we pass among them.’
