Gate’s Under 9 Tap Group competed in the Dance World Cup, performing amazingly to bring home gold. They performed a piece named Bustin’ Out which was much harder and faster than their usual pieces.
‘They did an epic performance, they’ve never won a medal, and the competition was very high,’ said Sharnna Bunyan, their nominator, whose daughter was part of the dance group.
The courage to dance on a world stage coming from a little island is something to admire about these young dancers, and these dancers truly dedicated themselves by putting in extra effort at home.
How young they are and how much practice they put into the dance is what makes this group special.
This group of dancers came first out of eight countries such as England, Spain and Austria. ‘They were a fantastic bunch of kids who really performed their little hearts out,’ said Sharnna.
‘It’s amazing, a privilege,’ said Catherine Webster, a principle and teacher at the Guernsey Academy for Theatrical Arts, when she heard about the nomination. ‘All the 18 young dancers in the group truly worked very hard to win.’
