MUSIC BOX has been nominated for the Arts Contribution award ‘because everyone is accepted for dancing and drama’, according to nominator Rose Farish.
Music Box is a local family-run theatre and dancing school which has been running for 18 years.
Brother-and-sister duo Ellie and Peter Mitchell are heads of dance and drama, respectively.
‘It’s getting to know the people,’ Ellie said.
‘Some of them we’ve known since they were two or three, and they’ve stayed with us until they’re 18.’
‘The main reason is not about the competition. It’s not about festivals or shows, although they do both, but about the pupil’s love of the art,’ Rose continued.
‘They’re about how everybody who wants to dance, can. If you like to dance you can, you’re not going to be penalised for not being the best. It’s far nicer for the kids, and good for them too.
‘It’s very much a local company run by locals for the right reasons. A brother and sister partnership who also employ many others, they deserve recognition for the chance they give island children.’
